I think it is prity sad that after all the success the under twelves have brought the club,a common ground can not be found between the parties.
I do not normally post on club sites but I really do think you all need your heads banging to -gether.

This weekend the Under 12's are travelling to France to play St Esteve as everyone is aware. Regretably, we've had some bad news regarding one of our parents. Daniel Byrne's mum unfortunately passed away yesterday but as would be Jan's wish, both Daniel and his dad are still travelling. On behalf of all Under 12s we pass our sympathy onto the Byrne's Family and Jan will be in our thoughts whilst we are away.

Craig Richards and Ben Lazenby the new RFL club& coach development officers for the north west, will be at our meeting on Tuesday.
They are to address the meeting to formally introduce themselves and explain how they can be of benefit you the coaches and clubs.
Part of their brief is to ascertain the shortfalls of qualified coaches at all the new levels and to formulate a plan of action to set up the relevant coaching courses.
All clubs can help by bringing a list of all the coaches and current coaching qualifications held at our age groups.

Recs fan, living in Sydney
10 November 2007 00:00:00
Bored at work the other day and read the history of St Helens Rec/Pilkingtons Recs that my brother sent me over. It was a good read. I always knew that St Helens sustained 2 professional clubs for a period and found it surprising that Recs were so sucessful. How crazy would it have been if they survived and St Helens still had a derby day!! After speaking with my family, it seems that following recs in end in 1939 my grandads brother (the only recs fan in the family) began to follow Wigan week in week out as opposed to St Helens. He was also a big fan of Pilks later.

Good site, keep up the good work.

A big well done to Pilks u14s who today competed in the Saddleworth U14s tournament , played 3 games against Chorley , Saddleworth and Waterhead and came away unbeaten. Every player can be very proud of there efforts who gave there all , and are now starting to believe in there abilities.Confidence breeds confidence and this was evident today to all parents and coaches alike , well done lads, keep up the good work and be positive in all that you do.

to no name you are not able to play for u13's if really you are 14 you have to play for the right age group which is u14's or if you are good enough you could always play for the team above which would be u15's.sorry hope this helps because it wouldn't be fair to let you play if you are to old for the team.you can play above your age but not below it. this you understand is a ruling from barla and also for insurance purposes.see contact details if you are still intersested.

what a credit both the pumas and cougars are to the club. the pumas with their 14-0 win and superb rugby, to pick up the trophy. then the cougars, although they did not win their game, what a brilliant display of rugby. a end to end battle, in which either side could of won. unlucky for us, it was saddleworth. but with two u12 teams like ours, no wonder we are still proud. three finals two trophies and fifteen playing for the service area, keep it up and maybe next year, we might even do better....

Dave/Alan,
PLease thank your players & sub's for the way they conducted thereselves at the under 12's final at Blackpool on the 29/4/07, you were all a credit to your club and coaching staff Dave Roughey no matter what you and your coaching Staff & Chderyl have always been grasious in defect, the sub's were such a laugh and the support you had from the young lads (who were no more than 9 years old ) from behind the players dugout, was fantastic.

I have to say that some Pilks Pumas coaching staff was still living in the grease era, but he looked good, just nissed the tight jeans @ dark glasses lol x

Best wishes from Karen Jackson, Langworthy Reds & NWC's Disciplinary Chair

A Great game of Rugby yesterday on Parr Stocks with the under 15s beating a strong Rochdale Mayfield side 8-4. The weather was terrible and both sides played some good flowing rugby that some sides would not have dared in the weather. The under 15s will now go to the play off final to play the winners of Haydock or Thatto Heath. well done lads.

Sometimes the most simple things can be overlooked. In a time when alot of effort is put into recruiting new players into clubs, one small but significant aspect to get right is that first night the new person comes to training at the local amateur club and their introduction to life at a club.

The attached 1 page document pulls together some good practice from Clubmark Clubs and everything listed already happens at the majority of clubs, it is after all just common sense. I don't want this to come across as teaching people to 'suck eggs' it is i feel an important matter and one the game must get right if it is to continue to grow.

What should clubs do with ?First Timers??
All of this is just common sense however it is surprising just how many times the simple things are overlooked. The following points are guidelines for clubs as to what to do when they get a new person attend their training session. It is recommended good practice that all clubs adopt a standard approach to newcomers ? does this happen at your club?

All new members at the first training session will be:

1. Shook hands with by the team coach, welcomed to the club and asked their name.

2. Introduced to the team ? their name and where they have come from i.e. school

3. Formally introduced to two players before training who will be asked to look after the person during the session and ensure they are coping and made welcome by other team-mates

4. Provided with a ?Club Welcome Pack? containing membership details, contact details, season fixture list/calendar etc. (A stack of welcome packs should always be held by each coach in the boot of their car).

5. Spoken to after the coaching session by the coach, listen to them on how it went and encouraged to continue

6. Spoken to along with their parents, there parents told about the club, its code of conduct for matchdays, volunteering opportunities and of course that their child showed some great promise and the club really enjoyed having him/her turn up.

7. Asked to sign registration forms or leave contact details (if appropriate)

Why should clubs always do points 1-6 for every new member?
Point 1: Welcomes them to the club in a formal and friendly way, eases their nerves & ensures their presence is not missed
P2: Gives the rest of the team opportunity to relate to the person and make contact (then or further on into the session)
P3: Immediately gives the person two buddies and someone who will talk with them
P4: Provides literature for the new person and their family to read following the session
P5: Ensures the person has opportunity to speak to the coach, ask any questions etc.
P6: Parents of child are reassured, welcomed to the club (Rugby League is a family sport) & have the opportunity to ask any questions

Well done pumas for a hard fought win yesterday. A good team performance and some excellent individual skills shown, KEEP UP THE HARD WORK. Also well done firstly to St Pats for a great gameand secondly the referee as it was only his 2nd game ever in charge and his first was for the cougars v Orrel which finished 10 mins earlier. We are all guilty of criticising these refs (myself included) but what we all must realise, If it wasn't for these people, us coaches would end up refereeing and most of us Know what thats like. Pilks 40 pts - Golborne 30 pts

Great game by both sets of players! - Nice to see some genuine rugby league played without the fanfares seen at other matches and by players who want to play for their clubs and enjoy their rugby!

Top class referee too, only matched by great post match hospitality by Pilks - thank you!

Keep going both sets of players - well done!

More good reports, taken from 8-12's website:
Pilks Recs Cougars 14 West Bank Bears 0
Would like to say what a pleasure this game was to watch this morning. Pilks are a great footballing side, and worked hard all game. Must however praise West Banks grit and determination that was apparent throughout the game. 14-0 down at half time, West Bank never gave up and kept a clean sheet throughout the second half, with strong defending.
A great game played by both teams, played in the true spirit of rugby league.
Congratulations to players, coaches and parents of both sides.

DAVE
22 January 2007 00:00:00
Dave in answer to your question, yes the club situation was discussed at length, and an annoucement will be made most likely at the end of Feb, however due to the ongoing discussions with certain parties, nothing can be announced until they are completed. I know you want to hear something more positive at this late stage, but until t are crossed & i's dotted they cannot say more than the matter is well in hand
ralph
22 January 2007 00:00:00
Hi all

there will be a meeting to explain developments in the near future. Can I start by saying that the club will not end just because city road closes, if we all believe we Recs through and through then the closure of City Road won't signal the end. What I can say is that come the end of March we will have another base in the locality where we can be based and make use of for after match refreshments. Playing fields will be as they are at the moment but I can say that negotiations are in hand to establish a long term base and playing facilities FOR ALL AGE GROUPS!! so keep positive, stop the rumours and trust me i am going to get this sorted out for the benefit of everyone. As soon as I have something concrete which i hope will not be long off I will convene a meeting and tell you all, bear with me it is not an easy task as there are a lot of conflicting factors to negotiate around and a variety of interested parties. Just keep playing the good rugby that we are doing and this will come together.

Tough luck to Pumas but you gave them a great game lads and that result shows it could have gone either way. Next time you will do it for sure, keep your heads up well done to Coaches as well for a well drilled team.

For those open age players who know him - just an update - Mike Sheeran former open age player received his commission in the Army last week - you may have seen him on TV - he was in the same platoon as Prince William, rubbing shoulders with Royalty now!! - he still keeps in touch asking about the various teams.

thanks to everyone who attended last nights Race Night. The club raised a lot of money to help for the rest of the season.
A big thanks must also go to Ste Metcalfe who organised the full event and made sure it all went swimmingly. I'm sure Ste will have a list of people to thank, so if I 've missed you, apologies all the hard work is appreciated

These comments have been received via e-mail and from the NWC forum and are regarding the under 8s. I feel proud to be part of a well respected team, and have been asked to place them on the guestbook so everyone in the club can be proud.
WELL DONE COACHES, PLAYERS AND PARENTS.

Mark (team rep)

Comment on NWC-

Langworthy Reds under 8's parents and coach would like to thank Jeff Brown from Pilkington Recs under 8's for such a fantastic game of rugby yesterday.

Not only did Jeff loan me two of his players (and I might add one of them was his son) but he allowed the game to flow which is how it should be at under 8's and for those of you who have bickered about the loaning of players, believe me these two lads did not back off from tackling and trying to score tries against there own club.

The children and the parents and coaches are a credit to him and your club.

If Jeff does not use this forum, would someone from Pilks please kindly pass on our comments.

Thanks once again for a top game.

Karen

e-mail from portico-

Hi Tracy,

I?m the under 8?s coach at Portico Vine club and we played your team this morning. I just wanted to drop the club a line and let them know how much we all enjoyed today?s match. We (Portico) lost today, but your boys were magnificent and (more to the point) they outplayed us in an incredibly fair, clean game.

We were light-handed today and three of your players volunteered to play for us ? these three (Tom, Joe and Jacob) were an absolute credit to the team and to the club. They played with real heart and soul and our parents have asked me to contact you to see if we could get a postal address for the U8?s secretary as we?d like to send the lads some certificates to say thanks.

All in all, it was an excellent morning?s fun and it has really left all of us involved with the U8?s with a great impression of Jeff and the whole Pilks club. I?m a newcomer to Junior Rugby and today?s game reminded me of exactly why I had got involved in the first place.

Could you pass our thanks on to all involved in the U8?s and especially the parents ? who were very supportive.

Good luck for the rest of the season!

John & the Portico Under 8?s.
